THE ARTIST’S WORDS:

“This art work provides a place in which to quietly meditate on the glory of the American flag as a symbol of feminine courage and indignation. It invites you to calmly dream of the origins of the flag and picture Betsy Ross, having been tied up in George Washington’s basement, being forced to singlehandedly create the American flag while being subjected to countless taunts, threats and sexual advances. It’s not hard to imagine that after 20 days she would escape by strangling General Washington with her newly created flag only to experience the heartbreak of finding out that Washington had murdered her husband in an “accidental” munitions explosion.
Sit down and try it yourself.”

[The artist is the author of several historical novels including, “Ðie, Caesar, Die; Portia’s Lament” and “Mary Todd Makes Theatre Reservations.” --Ed.]
